Egg Yolk – Benefits for Skin, Hair & Health

Eggs consist of 2 major portions, the egg white and the egg yolk. The egg white is mostly consisted of water and protein, while the egg yolk is primarily the nutrient bearing portion of the egg that supplies food to the embryo, like vitamins and minerals.

The egg yolk also contains the nutrients that the body needs. It has Vitamins A, D and E which help in protecting the body from UV and pollution along with saturated as well as unsaturated fatty acids like oleic acid, linoleic acid and stearic acid. The yolk of an egg also has minerals like calcium, iron, phosphorous and zinc.

Myths and Facts

Myth: Egg yolks are unhealthy for the body

Fact: Recent research has proven that egg yolks, though being high in fat and cholesterol does not result in high blood cholesterol level for the body. The fat and cholesterol one acquires from egg yolks is actually beneficial for the body, unlike the fat from excessive oily foods.

Myth: Farm fresh eggs are safer to consume than processed or manufactured eggs.

Fact: This is not true as there is more chance of the salmonella bacteria spreading at in-home farm chickens, so it is harder to keep tabs on their health. In areas that have widespread manufactured eggs, the chicken is very well treated and strict action is taken to treat the animal if there is any detection of bacteria and sickness.
